Privacy policy

The Finance Pay Index is run by Daniel MacKenzie, based in the UK, who is the data controller for the information you give us. For anything about your data, email dan@financepayindex.com.

• Your package: role, salary, bonus, pension, leave, benefits, experience, qualification, and your company’s industry, size, ownership and location. Gender and your last pay rise are optional.
• Your email, only if you give it: to save your result, sign you in, and send emails you ask for.
• Technical data: the IP address your entry came from, to spot duplicate or fake entries. For rate limiting we keep only a scrambled version, deleted after a day.

• To show you your result and run your account, because you asked us to.
• To build anonymous benchmarks and reports from everyone’s entries. This is our legitimate interest in running the index, and it never exposes any individual.
• To send you updates (a quarterly read on finance pay, and alerts when your position moves), only if you’ve opted in or asked for them. Every update email has an unsubscribe link, and one unsubscribe stops them all.
• To keep the index accurate and safe, for example rejecting implausible entries and stopping automated abuse. This is our legitimate interest.

• Never your individual entry. We don’t share, sell or show anyone’s own package or email.
• Anonymous group statistics only. Medians and ranges across groups of at least 5 people, rounded to the nearest £1,000. We publish these on this site, and may share them with or license them to other organisations, such as employers wanting to benchmark pay. They can’t be traced back to you. See how the index works.
• Service providers who run the site for us under contract: Vercel (hosting), Neon (database) and Resend (email). Some may process data outside the UK, using legally recognised safeguards.

• Essential: a sign-in cookie if you have an account, and a short-lived cookie (24 hours) that stops your entry being counted twice.
• Analytics: Vercel Web Analytics counts visits without cookies and without identifying you.
• LinkedIn: a LinkedIn cookie to measure our posts and ads, only if you click Allow. It never sees your pay data.

We keep entries for as long as the index runs, because the benchmarks depend on them. You can ask us to delete your entry or account at any time, and we will.

You can ask to see the data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or object to how we use it, and you can withdraw consent for emails at any time. Email dan@financepayindex.com. If you’re unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
