How the index works

Every figure comes from UK finance professionals telling us their own package: base salary, bonus, pension, leave, benefits, role, company and location. The index began with a founding survey of 55 responses and grows with every package added on this site, 447 permanent packages so far. Nothing is scraped from job adverts or estimated by a model.

• One entry per person. If someone updates their package, it replaces their old entry rather than adding a second one.
• Permanent roles only. Interim day rates and part-time salaries are kept out of the benchmarks so they don’t skew permanent pay.
• Like for like. You're compared with people in the same role, in London or elsewhere in the UK (London pays noticeably more). If there aren't enough people in your role and area yet, we compare across the UK and say so.
• Total package, not just base. Your total package is base salary plus potential bonus, employer pension and car allowance, compared only with people who gave their full package.
• Typing slips are caught. Salaries outside a sensible range for the role are rejected, and extreme values are capped so one unusual entry can’t move a median.
• Live and updated as packages arrive. Figures recalculate as new entries come in, so they move over time.

• Your individual entry is never shared or shown. We publish only anonymous group figures: medians and ranges.
• No figures from small groups. A salary page shows nothing until at least 5 people have contributed, and a peer group needs at least 5 matches.
• Rounded to the nearest £1,000. Published figures are rounded so no exact salary can be read off a page.
• Ranges only where they’re safe. The typical range (25th to 75th percentile) and the top-10% figure appear only from 10 responses, and a peer group’s range from 10 matches. Below that, we show the median only.
• Your email is separate. It’s only used to save your result and, if you ask, to send you updates. You can unsubscribe from any email.

The index reflects what UK finance professionals report they are paid. It’s a strong guide to the market, not a rule: sample sizes are shown alongside the figures, and roles with fewer responses are less precise. It isn’t financial advice.
